Military Cookbook Project -

Hello Everyone!  I am Chef Kate Gabriele and I am seeking recipes from Men & Women who have served or are serving now in the military and what meals they missed most from home while they were away... was it Mom's apple pie or Uncle Ben's BBQ ribs smoking hot off the grill...I want what YOU missed- why you missed it so much and the memories that it brings back  and a picture of your smiling face in uniform or civilian clothing.

This cookbook will bring a cross section of our American Military back home with great recipes and stories of their families in an heirloom project close to my heart. Both of my Uncles served in WWII- Uncle Phil was Airborne and Uncle Angelo was an MP in New Mexico....I can't think of a better way to keep the memories alive and give tribute to our husbands, wives, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and everyone in our family or extended familes who have enlisted and serve our country. Please help me in this endeavor. A part of the proceeds of the sale of the cookbook will go to military charities to be named once it gets off the ground. Support our Troops! God Bless the USA!
See below for a sample of what I am looking for!

Name: PVT1St Class Robert Pomroy
Branch; Army
Stationed; IRAQ.
The recipe I want to tell you about is a special one. Its called Grandma's Broccoli Casserole.
This recipe has been in our family since my Great Grandmother made it at Christmas.
When we were kids, we use to travel every year from Phila PA to upstate N.J. to our Grandparents house for Christmas. We would walk through there door and smell the casserole cooking in the oven. My Great Grandmother would always tell me and my siblings that she didn't make the casserole this year for Christmas! We would get upset because it was so good and we were never allowed to check the oven either, but, when it was time to sit down and say grace, there it was, the casserole. We had smiles from ear to ear.
We lost Grandmom Brien a few years back. Since then, my Grandmother and my Mother try to keep the tradition of the Broccoli Casserole at Christmas dinner. But even though their's taste good,it's not like my Great Grandmother's. She will always be the queen of the Broccoli Casserole.
Since I have been in the Army I have been missing it sooo much. when I get back to the states my mother will make it, but it won't be the same.

The Recipe for the Broccoli Casserole:
1 large frozen broccoli pacage, cooked and drained
1 can cream mushroom soup
1/2 cup grated chedder cheese
heat and mix together.
Beat together: 1 egg,1/4 cup milk and 1/4 cup mayo add this to the soup mixture- mix well.
Pour in casserole dish, cover with buttered bread crumbs. Bake at 350, for 25 to 30 min.
